I have been thinking about canceling my cell phone plan and only using wifi calling for about 2 years now. Your solution to have a network backing me up is awesome. If I need to go on a road trip i can buy a pass and never loose service!
Only thing is I love my Note II and now that I have it, I cant go back to a smaller screen phone... Im with sprint now, I would think it would be easy to switch to you since you use sprint? If this never happens, will you offer some type of buy back program so that maybe i could swap you my phone for yours? switching to the photon Q would be a pretty good downgrade for me. This is my only issue.

Also, my other concern is about GPS.. i use my phone to do GPS all the time. Does your phone have a built in GPS chip? or will i have to buy a data pass in order to get GPS to work?

Hi Chuck,
We currently don't offer a buy back program. Our first device is the Motorola Photon Q, which has everything you expect in an Android smartphone. We’re working to add to our device portfolio and plan to offer a variety of smartphones at a wide range of price points in the future. At 4.3 inches, this display is the largest we've seen on a phone with a slide-out keyboard. Yes, the Photon Q comes with GPS.

Does the GPS work when you do not have the sprint service though? If im only on the free plan, will GPS work while driving down the road and not in range of Wifi? it seems like it would need to have maps downloaded? Do you guys include downloaded maps in the os?
Patrick Roberts
Hello Chuck,
The GPS will still work to show you your location but what will not work is the maps like you mentioned. The phone does not come pre-installed with offline maps but there are several free apps in the Play Store that you can use to download offline maps. Here are two of the more popular ones MapsOn Free: Offline Map and Maps With Me Lite, Offline Map.

If I do purchase the Photon Q but Scratch later releases a phone I like better can I trade mine in or get a discount on the new one?
Allan Carhart
Related to what you're answering here, but more specific:
Would it be possible for a customer to provide their own Motorola Photon Q? Or does this have to be a Photon Q that you sell?
I already own an unlocked Photon Q on Sprint, which is why I ask.
Perhaps if you make your money selling the phones, then my question is a non-starter.
Patrick Roberts
Hello Sarah and Allan,
Both great questions. Currently you have to purchase the phone directly from us. We are working on a bring your own device option but there is no time frame for that.
We are also working on an upgrade option but it is still in the works and there is no time frame for that either.

I understand as a new company it takes time to get things going and you did say you are planning to bring new phones in the future. I was wondering if there are any plans to bring at least one new phone this year, 2014? That is basically the only reason for me not to switch at this time as I'm used to having a phone with big battery that lasts at least a day with heavy use.
Thanks.

It's about to be the end of 2014, where are those new phones, Kelly Gerard? I would like something more modern, seeing as how fast technology advances.

Jay, I'd love to have those new devices as well! It's looking more like the January/February timeline. I can't confirm specific phones be we really love the Moto X, E and G!

It is almost March. Is there any word on new devices?
Eppleys
yes.. almost march! they have got to be coming soon, especially if the Q is sold out! Really wanting to give Scratch a try... but there has to be a phone to purchase! lol

I was told today that they were expecting new phones in a couple of weeks. As far as what the new phones will be...not sure?! I do know for sure that there will be no more Photon Q Phones. I just recently signed up for an invitation, I am also eager to switch to Scratch and get rid of my current phone plan and phone. My current phone and plan both suck greatly. Scratch will help me out while going to college for sure!! At least financially, that is! And I am around WIFI pretty much all day, every day.

I must add that I really enjoyed my time getting my questions and confusion resolved with Patrick. He is a Great Customer Service Representative! Keep up the good work Patrick!!

Hi, I am looking for a phone for my middle shcool child to have in case of emergencies and this seems perfect. I read that the old phone cant do MMS but can the new Photon Q be able to? Thanks.
Patrick Roberts
Hello John,
Our Photon Q's were the phones that could not do MMS. We are completely sold out of the Photon Q's but the good news is our new Coolpad Arise devices will be able to do MMS.

Hi Patrick,
Does this mean that MMS, as with text messages, is also free even while on the road (no WiFi connection) ?

Hello,
No it does not mean MMS is free away from Wi-Fi is just means the Coolpad Arise can do MMS. You can read more about it here https://scratchwireless.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200848037-Is-MMS-available-on-your-phones-
