Hello David,

We have tested the GPS with out Wi-Fi or cell data and it did function but for the best results you will want either Wi-Fi or cell data.

You can download a GPS program that does not require a data connection. MapFactor and Navfree are two that I have tried.

I use the Google Maps application included by default all the time by loading my route while still on wifi and navigation will still work great once you leave the wifi. The issue of course is that it will not be able to recalculate/change your route or provide real-time traffic data once you're out on the road, so that is where the offline map applications can really help. I have another app that uses GPS to match my location to vendors I put in and it works great too even when I am away from wifi (and without a cell data plan).

So yes, GPS on your phone works whether or not you have a data connection through either cell or wifi.
